I took diet pills from the age of 18 to 24 off and on. I started with metabolife and then took phentermine for about a year. The phen was when the big problems started. I became so sick from it mentally and physically, but didn't beleive it was from the drugs until recently. I have not taken any pills for almost 2 years. now my metabolism is messed up I have gained 30 pounds but still have really bad headaches a few times a week and get really bad anxiety and have no sexual interest what so ever in anyone! I have done resarch and it seems that these sympots are due to the fact that the pils caused loss of brain serotonin nerve terminals. IS there anything I can do to repair them or help me with my problems. Please help!!!

Here are three ways to get more natural serotonin into your body.

1. Health Foods: Drink a whey protein milkshake every day. put a scoop of chocolate flavor in a blender with a half a banana and some skim milk. It tastes delicious and helps keep your tummy flat too.

If using a blender is too much work you can get these milkshakes in ready to drink packages. Put some in the refrigerator and enjoy one a day.

2. L-Tryptophan Supplements: These were off the market for a long time due to one bad batch made by a foreign company. Now they are back and have passed the regulatory requirements for purity. One company that makes these is Doctor's Best.

3. 5-HTP supplement is a natural serotonin precursor

There are serotonin uptake medications such as Paxil. You need to see your medical doctor and explain all of your symptoms and see if you can get this medication.

I regret that you are experiencing so many problems from diet medications. I am against all diet medications even natural ones because I feel they can cause serious complications further on down the road.

The first ting to do is see a physician where you can get a real diagnosis of the causes of the symptoms you mentioned.

If indeed you are not producing enough serotonin, Tryptophane and a precursor called 5HTP are or may be useful.

You might also want to take a few of the phospholipids that influence neurotransmtter production. These phospholids included but are not limited to Glycerphosphocholine and Phosphatidyl Serine and Phosphatidyl Choline.

Don't try to fix this alone using OTC preparations. To repeate, the symptoms you describe require medcial attention.
