Any ideas about the problem? I pour water in drive about 3 miles its all gone i think its a leak in the radiator or hose going to it if its the hose must be a big hole!
Any clarification on this would be great, and as i know nothing about cars how much will a garage charge to fix it?
Thanks

hi hargood thank for advice, when the engine has cooled down, i have put water in, the water will go in only to a certain level (not full lvl tho) after this level the water just leaks out like a running tap i can see where the water is dripping from but if i try and describe it it wont sound right. when the engine is off and i have poured water above the level where it starts to leak, it drips from the front end to the middle of the engine. once the car has started after a like i say 3 miles if that all the water has gone and temp is up to 90. there doent seem to be water spots in the oil, i checked oil this morn as i thought that may be what the leek was (saw the leek all over road first before started daft i know but hey im a women). any way thanks for your advice

victoria Hi when your engine has set and is cooled off and is dry . Open the hood put water in the radiator . Don't start the engine inspect both sides and the bottom of the radiator for for leaks or wet spots. If no success start the engine .Make sure the cap is on the radiator . ( this builds pressure in the system) Now check the radiator and hoses while pressure is building .. Keep checking for several minutes . Also look around the water pump . If the car heats up and the water is gone and you see no leaks . Shut down pull the dip stick out for the oil. Clean it off re-insert and check for water spots in the oil or foam . If you see this you have a serious internal problem .. Hoses are simple to replace .For a radiator use a shop that works on cooling systems only .. ( most dealers & shops farm this work out . ) A water pump is second level any friend with limited experance could help . Oil in the water is quite serious and could be a number of things .. Get professional help .. Good Luck

Do you see stem coming out from under the bonnet? If so open bonnet and have a look and see where its coming from. Try putting some rad weld into the radiator see if this helps. You really need to get it fixed because the cooling system will not be working efficiently and can cause serious and very expensive problems with engine. Take it into garage and ask them to look at it and show you whats wrong. A new radiator can set you back about £100 call some motor factors to get idea on price. Changing it out will be 1 to 2 hours of garage time at about £45 an hour depending on what garage you go to.

Yes i'd think water pump now aswell assuming its definatly not a hose.

may be that you have a leaking radiator water hose, heater hose, water pump, or radiator. The hose will be cheapest the other 2 will cost much more to replace. Don't drive it without water in it or you will have head gasket damage and/or heads cracked which will lead to thousands of dollars in repair costs. Also never pour cold or tap water in a radiator when the engine is hot unless it is running...then watch for steam coming back out of the radiator it can be VERY dangerous. Good luck hope this info helps.

Before you take it to a garage and get charged a fortune, go to Halfords and get something called Radweld, its only a couple of quid, pour it into your radiator and any holes it should fix them, if it doesnt work then take it to a garage

the cooling system needs to be blead to remove air when refilling with coolant otherwise it will continue to overheat. from your description of events and volume of coolant consumed apart from the leak the head gasket has expired. with the engine running and radaitor cap removed if bubbles can be detected in coolant upon reaching running temperature. gasket failure is confirmed.

This sounds very familiar. It could be the water pump.
