Combatives level 1 and 2 is unit level trained. As long as you have someone who is level 2, they can teach level 1. Level 3 is only taught at Fort Benning, GA. A 4th Level exists but I dont know much about that, a platoon sergeant in my company went to Benning for level 3, he said it was pretty tough, alot of guys broke arms and noses.

For level 1, you need to be certified by taking the level 1 class by a level 3 instructor. (should be at least 1 level 3 in your bn.) For level 2, same goes, you need to be certified by taking the level 2 class(2 weeks) by a level 4 instructor. For level 3 you need to be sent to Ft Benning to MACP 3, normally pretty easy to get into if your CONUS, otherwise youll have to bark at your chain of command till they let you go. The last level is the same way, only its death by power point haha.

You can get with your chain of command and see when a combatives class is offered in your battalion, or maybe they can get you in a different battalion's class, you start with Level one which is one week, and then if you can get your chain of command to send you, you can go to level 2 and level 3 hope that helps.

Do you mean basic training? If so, just enlist, and yes, you can choose your skill/ specialty. Or do you mean training like a hand-to-hand combat instructor? You'd have to already be in and request that.

First: enlist.
Then: do what you're told.
