Is this a set up to give the US and UK an excuse for a war with Iran?

It could be but I doubt it. If anything it could be a plus to Iran because they could use these sailors as leverage as we are currently asking them to decommission some of their radioactive power stations, we believe they possibly could make uranium for an a-bomb.
So if anything it would be Iran that could be trying to use them as a way to allow them to keep their nuclear power.
It could be either side that is playing it for their benefit.

No excuses needed to attack Iran. The Americans want revenge for the attack upon their embassy during the so called Iran revolution lead by the ancient ayatollahs.

The Americans are saying that the Royal Navy ship HMS Cornwall and it's boats were well within Iraqi territorial waters and so too do the Brits.

The Iranians need a bargaining chip to try and get themselves of the sanctions hook - it ain't gonna work.

PM Tony Blair has already said on TV he wants the Royal Navy personnel released at once. This is the final of diplomacy. What happens next is up to Iran - the ball is now in their court.

One small point - were the Royal Navy trying to get someone inside Iran? Hence no shootout. Or, were they trying to sneak someone out?

Israel bombed Beirut to the ground for one captured soldier. How dare these people take our sailors, Israel or the Yanks wouldn't stand for it. But we do, pity Magee still not PM, this just wouldn't be on going.

what i want to know is how they managed to capture royal marine commandos without a firefight? my fella is an ex marine shortly to go back in and he also cant understand why they was managed to be taken without more fuss. i dont think all the details have been released. they never are. if they dont let em go tho, then the special forces will move in and take em back. it could get very very messy.

Amazing how many people seem to be blaming this on the US.

Do you think we asked the Iranians to kidnap those troops or something?

It is called 'baiting' in political terms. An excuse to justify any future 'pre-emptive' attacks.....

IF THERE WAS A WOMAN ON ONE OF THE BOATS, I DONT BELIEVE THEY WOULD HAVE STRAYED INTO IRANIAN WATER ON PURPOSE. FEMALES CANNOT SERVE ON THE FRONT LINE, BE IT WATER OR LAND.
