It all depends on the Branch that you join. The Marines its 12 weeks. That doesn't include the other Weeks you spend if you are chosen to go to sniper school or aviator training. Army I believe is around 9 weeks. They have shorter training periods because their not as good a devil dogs. And the Navy it depends if you go to college and want to be an officer or if you want to start from the bottom up.

It relies upon on the dept of the army he joined. The Marine Corps has a preparation depot in Parris Island, South Carolina. i'm a Marine so my answer is customized to our preparation technique. he will attend common preparation for 3 months. After this time he would be granted 10 days 'boot bypass away' wherein he can return domicile after commencement. on the top of the ten days he will return to preparation lower back in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for MCT (Marine wrestle preparation). except his MOS (Marine Occupational Speciality) is infantry. if it is the case he will attend ITB (Infantry preparation Battalion). If he's not infantry he would be in North Carolina for a month and on the top of his preparation he would be sent to a college domicile for his MOS. it is everywhere in the country in keeping along with his pastime. If he's infantry he will proceed to be in North Carolina for around 8 weeks. After graduating from the college domicile he will then be sent to his 'duty station' that's the place he would be doing his each and on a daily basis pastime.
