This happens even though the doors are shut. I have also made sure that the third door is shut tight. I have determined that it is the passenger door that the truck thinks is open. How can I find the door switch that lets the truck know if it is open or not? If I can't fix or bypass this switch, I'll have to find the fuse and disable the dome light and the cargo light so they don't remain lit while I drive.

On most Ford vehicles the dome light switch is built into the door latch mechanism in the door. As Gearnofear said, you need to lubricate the mechanism to keep it from sticking. I had a similar problem on my Taurus with the driver's door. I used WD-40 and it solved the problem; this was over a year ago and it's worked fine since. A few weeks ago my passenger door started the same thing and was fixed the same way. Just spray plenty of WD-40 right into the latch opening on each door, and open/close it a few times.

Look on the inside of the door frame where the door hinge is. Usually, it is a little spring loaded thing. I wouldn't be surprised of the plastic broke and the switch isn't closing, which may be why you can't find it. It may have also fallen into the frame. If that is the case, look for a little hole where the switch used to be.

You can find new ones just about anywhere.

Hope this helps!

Yeah here is another wonderful little bit of FORD technology that really pisses me off. what you need to do get get some penetrating oil and spray the latch on all the doors. Open and close them about 4 or 5 times and then spray them again. The indicator is inside the latch. After about 2 years of this you'll have to end up replacing the latches. my 1998 windstar had this same problem. It will work for about 3 or 4 months and then you'll have the same problem agian. I just put up with it untill I traded the lump in for something better.

Wish I could help you out on this 98. I had an older van but it had the switches under little rubber boots on the door sill.

fight back, why don't you go to the Honda and Toyota plants here in the USA and orate your ideals to the thousands of American workers there while they are eating lunch?
