You can try to find one on www.gunbroker.com, but you have to bid (like ebay), and if you win the gun must be shipped to a gun dealer (store).

Unfortunately for you at this point, Questioner, the above two answers are correct.
(1) A functional (note: 'functional') M1 will run you around $1500 or so. Fulton Armory has a good one here:
http://fulton-armory.com/MRifles.htm#FA-FFL-M1-Service
If you're planning on doing any serious shooting, you will really need to save up for one of these. Springfield Armory also has an M1 (as do several other firms) but Fulton Armory has the best range for accessories.
(2) If you just want one for the wall, the CMP surplus are a good choice. But to get one from CMP, you have to go through some hoops:
http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/eligibility_requirements.htm
So if you don't want to bother with these onerous eligibility requirements to get a $400 beat-up M1 Garand, save up for longer and get yourself a good quality service rifle. Goto your local bookstore and pick up a copy of "Shotgun News" for accessories such as slings, mag pouches, and other vintage GI errata.
Oh and when you do get your M1, watch your thumb when you load your clip and don't get it caught in the trapdoor (you'll know when you do this; it hurts like hell). Good luck.

Check out the Civilian Marksmanship Program. I got some sort of flyer from my club about them selling gov. surplus m1s.
You definetly can get one for that price.

Ummm.... have you tried a gun dealer, Einstein?
Oh, BTW, you're not underage, a convicted felon, or a child molester, are you? That might cramp your style a bit.

You can't get one for that price. Keep saving. When you've got $1,500 you'll have enough for one in good condition.
