A swing...no doubt, an absolute life saver. I could not live without one.

With my first, I needed My Brest Friend. It's a nursing pillow that is adjustable and has back support. It even stays put when you get up. I didn't have my own, but I used others' whenever I could, and it was soooo much better than Boppy (only because I have very small breasts and the Boppy wasn't high enough).
With my second, I needed the sling. It was indispensable for holding baby while chasing after a crazy toddler. I also learned that cloth diapers don't leak, so using them actually saved me some laundry in the early days.
Newborns really don't need much. Older babies need a mountain of stuff, but newborns are more interested in sleeping, eating and looking at your face.

Fischer Price Soothing Motions Glider. My son would sleep in it- he did not like to lay flat in his bassinet (I guess alot of babies don't) It is made for a newborn, unlike a swing. My son liked the swing when he was about 2-3 months old but for the begining I would HIGHLY recommend the glider. It is also easier to move from room to room.
Baby gowns are the best option for newborns- makes diaper changing alot easier. Side snap t-shirts are also great.
Medela makes microwave steam cleaning bags. Get those! You can use each bag 20 times and it sterilizes bottle/breast pump parts/ pacifiers in 3 1/2 minutes in the microwave. In the begining that was a lifesaver for me when you have to sterilize everything.
If you are breastfeeding I recommend the My BreastFriend pillow- much better than a boppy pillow.
Bouncy seat.
One thing I did see that I wish I had had is a swing frame for the graco snug ride car seat. The car seat snaps into the frame to turn it into a swing. I would have loved that and would definately gotten that for my son. I spent alot of time and armstrength swinging him around in his carseat!

I loved my rocker. I nursed in it and calmed my baby in it and he is now 11 months and I am still using it all the time. I also used the bouncer a lot in the beginning. Others love a swing and the Baby Papasan swing is really great and soothing for babies. I didn't like the Swaddle Me blankets at all - they seemed like too much and my son didn't do well with them either. Some nice receiving blankets work well. Of course, you also need all the basics like lots of diapers, wipes, ointments, the nasal aspirator, a bath sponge (to lay baby on at first), then baby tub, if you are bottle-feeding, bottles and formula, etc.
Good luck!

Diaper Genie.
http://www.diapergenie.com/
For the first year your child will essentially be a poop machine. I know, I know, love, cuddles, ga ga, inspiring beauty of new life, yada, yada, yada.... Been there, done that, and God's bestest little angel makes a TON of poop.
Diaper Genie takes all this poop and seals it up so you can't smell it. (!!!) Then when it got full one of my duties as Dad was to empty the thing. It worked really well and I don't recall ever having an accident with it. It never smelled like a diaper pail.
Diaper Genie. Only good things to say about it.

oh there are so many things you need...
1. bouncer-one of the best things my husband and me bought, it helps so much, target has ones that run off batteries and play music, get one that will move as he moves his arms and stuff too, we got the rainforest one by fisher price from target.
2. target also has a matching rainforest music moblie type thing, you put it on the crib and it plays music and has lights and water sounds, my son loves the water sound- it calms him down, plus it can play for up to 18 mins...the moblie we got only played for a few mins and was no help at all, so make sure you check that as well
3. one of my friends bought us a bobby pillow, it really comes in handy, especally for my husband when feeding our son
4. onesies- they will make it so much easier to change diapers, i wouldnt get too many t-shirts, they tend to bunch up and cause more trouble than good
5. prolly the most important thing i had the first few days, it was a bassient basket sleeper, you can carry it around from room to room for the baby to sleep and lay in, we kept it in the living room so we wouldnt be able to watch over him while he slept without having to go to the bedroom and check on him every few mins ( i always wanted to look at him every few mins to make sure he was okay, i think all first time moms do this)
good luck, hope this helps!!!
btw, you can go to target.com ( i know im a huge target fan)
and click on something, down towards the bottom are customer comments on items that they bought, it is really helpful

for me, it was a Boppy pillow...it's u-shaped pillow. you can do tons of stuff with it!
you can put it around your waist and create a "shelf" that you rest your arms on while you hold the baby...comes in handy for those 3am feeding, when you're really drowzy.
you can lay it on the bed/crib/couch and lay the baby in it (when they're too young to roll over, of course) it came in handy b/c my son wanted to be held constantly! this gave him that warm snuggly feeling.
when baby is starting to hold up his head, you can lay him on his tummy in it- and he'll have tummy time! anout 15 minutes/day to strengthen his muscles.
when baby is first learning to sit up- you can sit him in the middle of it, it gives just enough support to help him keep his balance--but not too much, where it sits him up for him.
check it out!

A swing, definitely. It helped get him to sleep and also allowed me to get things around the house completed. Also, lots of burp cloths!
Congrats and good luck!

1. Onesies, they will always have these tshirts with snap bottoms on ,so stock up
2.Cloth Diapers- They make excellent spit up cleaners and great for throwing over your shoulder when burping baby
3.Pampers ,pampers and more pampers
4.Make sure not to buy too many newborn sized clothes, they will grow out of those really quick.
Im 21 weeks pregnant and due Aug 3rd 2007 with my 2nd Baby Boy!! Congrats to you! :)
