Unfortunately, there is no easy way. I had coloured my hair black for years, then one day decided to go back to my natural brown. It was a process that left my hair very badly damaged. First, the hair must be stripped -- it takes a special kind of very strong bleach. Then, it must be dyed to the colour you want, no matter what. You cannot leave the hair stripped with no dye. Also, expect the colour you dye it after you strip it to come out MUCH darker than the box. It took forever to fade the post-stripped brown to my natural shade. All in all, it's not pleasant and should most likely be done by a professional only, or at least someone VERY skilled in hair treatments. There is a definite risk of burning off your hair or damaging your scalp. Expect split ends as the best case scenario.

You wont be able to dye over the black if it was a chemical dye. If it is a henna dye, you can re-dye using a different colour, but for chemical hair dyes you will need to bleach/strip your hair to remove the colour. You should really ONLY get this done by a professional as it can your hair if done incorrectly.

I am in pretty much the exact same predicament I have tried growing it out and the roots line just looks horrible, I called several salons today actually and the only thing you really can do is have your hair stripped. It costs a bit of money but I will be so happy to be rid of the black. The lady at the salon called it artificial pigment remover.

Your best bet is to grow it out. If you bleach it, it might turn some crazy color of orange/pink/yellow. Black dye is also very harsh, so trying to add dye over it may severely damage your hair. You can always try a shorter hair cut or have your hair layered in a way that all of the black can be cut out. Good luck!

you would have to see a professional. The only way for hair color to be lightened is with lightener (BLEACH). I would go to the salon and ask them to put heavy highlights where your black hair is to break it up . The foils will help it to lift better because it isolates the heat in one area that way you won't have to walk around with fried and/or orange hair

You can use a product called "Colorfix". You can also go to a salon and they will be able to bleach it out.
