I have recently rescued a chihuahua from a teenage girl who was unable to financially afford her pet. When I got the little girl I was told that she was pregnant. Since that time it has been confirmed by my vet that Yes she indeed was very pregnant.
My question is... We don't know her exact due date but we figure it is coming soon, is it normal for her belly to change to a darker colouraround the nipple area? At first we thought it was dirt and we tried to wash it away..but of course it's still there...Is this something I should be concered about?

Well dogs are pregnant for 64 days, thier nipples can become dark. you know she is close to date when she "Drops" my dog is currently pregnant and has dropped a little so time is nearing. Have a spot for her to go to when she is ready, you will notice her sniffing around and looking in corners and going under blankets. you can even go to the dollar store to buy a basket. you want the basket to be tall enough so the pups cannot get out but low enough for momma to get in and out. constantly give her new water, and calcium supplements. while she is nursing make sure she continues the calcium supplements, you can even give her Tums. My vet said those work well too.

Bless you for being so kind. I have a little Chihuahua also and they are dear little animals.
I do however think that your question would get better answers if you posted it under pets. Most of the people in this area are more informed about human pregnancy then they would be about your little dog.
I would suggest that you move your question tho I wish I could help you. The vet should have been able to give you a due date, that much I do know. Good Luck!

Well I know it is normal for the area around the nipple
(areola) to grow darker in a human pregnancy. Plus it happened to my cat whenever she was pregnant. I believe it is a normal thing for all species.

My dad has chihuahua's and one has been pregnant twice and yes she her nipple area got darker. It's normal and bless you for taking care of the doggie!

I think you should put this question by "dogs", somehow it got to the human baby pregnancy questions. :)
