Are you joking... I personally do not enjoy looking at the stars, but I understand the obsession. It is like a huge puzzle, showing the past and future of all the possibilities that our solar system has to offer. Is there life out there? What are the stars made of?
Some people look for the beauty, but most people who spend money on equipment want to see amazing things, like comets and astroid belts, meteor showers, hidden planets, white dwarfs, black holes.
There is always the possiblity of discovering something and naming it too.
These are all good reasons for watching the skies, and I understand peoples obsessions even though I do not share it.

I think that star gazing reminds us how small we are. It gives us a sense of insignificance that somehow feels good. Like maybe our own personal worries and trials are not the most important things in the world.
It also allows us to hope, dream, and wonder...
