For those who know someone that knows someone in the military. I have served 5 years active duty. I have accute asthma, I also had torn tendons in both shoulders and torn cartilage in both knees when I joined the military. I even had a combat MOS. And I have ran up to 10 miles at a time, carried a ruck sack 12 miles and done several dismounted patrols in Iraq with full combat gear so it all depends on the persons inner strength and yes you do have to lie about your conditions to get in, big deal be patriotic. I did and nothing bad came of it other than the bullets shot at me and my best friend getting killed. It all boils down to talking to a recruiter

No, because you have to run and do so much pt to get in shape, the asthma would slow you down and you would not finish boot camp. None of the military services will take an asthmatic, too big a risk in combat. You cant take a time out for breathing problems.

it depends on how bad an asthmatic you are, if it is just barely there and all and the recruiter you talk to advices you to just hid it(which he/she may) then it is passable to get into it... however the boot camp is strenuous and it is not very likely that if you have very bad asthma that you will be able to make it... and if you do it could be a major risk when combat comes around and such................... if you cant make it then i suggest some sort of law enforcement job instead. i knew a girl who desperately wanted to be a marine but she had bad asthma that would not permit it. she figured that out soon enough and instead pursued another career which involved her helping her country(the career being a law enforcement officer) and she is very pleased with her career.... if that be the case i am sorry you couldn't accomplish your original plans but it may be for the better... best of luck

No and I would not suggest sneaking in with asthma. I have heard people do it, but the Corps is not the branch to do it. Try Air Force or maybe try serving your country in another vital manner like EMS or Law Enforcement.

Hi fren,
It all depends on which department you are in...
There are many departments in the Navy(Singapore) ..
Sorry i don't know where you're from, pls accept my apologies...
For asthma, if its not severe.. you can go onboard crew.. if it's too severe, then you won't be able to.
It depends on the country's regulations.
And due to sea-sick... if there's any medical problems,
Govs do not wish to be liable...
Do give them a call or check out their webpage,
send an enquiry email to them in regards to this,
They would be the best person to ans your doubts.
Cheers

IF your asthma ain't too bad, you can try the Navy. My bro's a Petty Officer 2nd Class and still has a trace of it.
But first talk to all the recruiters and see what they say. :-)

no, none of the branches will take you ,
In the Air Force, they will send you home .
the dry Texas air can trigger attacks so bad that you can died . it has happen in the pass and the military will not take any chances with any recruits health.

Yes you can and the recruiter will tell you to hide it. He won't put it on the paperwork as long as your asthma is not out of control.
Talk to your recruiter and explain your situation and he'll let you know whats best for you.
