Why do amish people live simple lives?

Part of their religious beliefs. They choose to do this. The adults do anyway. I guess the kids don't have a choice in the matter until they are adults.

they are simple people that live off the land with very strong god fearing values. some can be harsh but its a way of life for them. i for one admire them.
