Because the tobacco companies give lawmakers much more money than the fast-food companies do.

There's no logic to decisions being made. It's purely political, and purely to appease whatever issues people are crying about now.

The govt should be staying out of all those decisions regarding what someone choose to put in their bodies.

well tobbaco in te first place is not or well say no anybody can get easy I mean to say kids...Tobbaco is only legal for adults of age 21 and up I think that's right...Trans fat is in food that is not illegal even for a newborn baby I guess tha is the best explanation I can give so I am OK with that regulation....I never smoke and I never will. Tobbaco you choose to smoke or not is totally diferent issue betwen Tobbaco and a meal that you buy to EAT and will have something that is not good for you...Myself I buy healthy food so if they try to make better for this fat country WELCOME!!!! I should say they shouln't even pay for any medical problem like surgery etc. that a person get free from the Gov=Welfare department that are taxes that we pay and we never get any benefit from it...Who is geting benefit the people that choose to seat around and get over weight...Just for the heck of eating with out control so...DON'T BAN TOBBACO AND YES Transfat, nobody should be saling unhealthy food.....

Every place where liberals take power, they do everything possible to control all aspects of our lives "for our own good" since they believe that the are smarter than everyone else. (Plus, they like to collect tax revenues for "violations") Just look at Chicago and the ban on fois gras ... this is insane! With all the issues that need to be addressed, Chicago bans foie gras! Trans fats are no different. What a joke.

The exception, as you point out, is where they are already collecting taxes on our sins. They'd never ban tobacco or alcohol, since the government gets such hefty tax revenues from these evils.

Banning transfats is simply a matter of government intervention in situations where they aren't called for. Most places ban tobbaco smoking in restaurants and even bars, but nobody does anything about McDonald's becuase it has big lobbyists and more money. This is all simply politics. Health concern is bogus excuse and banning transfats is an example of a big brother government.

About time the people decided that banning trans fat is a good idea. Trans fat is a leading cause of heart disease in our country and its time restaurants use an alternative to trans fat.

Yeah, another banner law by our "nannie" government......

The reason they won't ban tobacco is the lovely billions of dollars in taxes they collect. They would have to find a way to replace all that money.

Texas alone collects 1 billion dollars a year in tobacco tax.

So, forget the tobacco ban.....

The government should not be in the business of banning anything. Prohibition seeks to make criminal that which is not
