Tonight on my way home from work, I noticed that in my 1998 ford explorer, the 4WD and 4WDL lights would flash 4 times and then go out for about 2 minutes. They would then flash again. I didn't try putting it in 4 wheel drive because I know this means there is a problem of some sort. Anyone know what this means?

You should take it to a shop and have them scan for the DTC(S?) Diagnostic Trouble Codes. After that see if they can diagnose it for you. There are way to many possibilities that could cause the light to go one to even start to guess what the problem is!

You could try just taking it to a parts store like auto value ect. most of them will scan it for free. If you want the best answer you could log onto Ford Truck Enthusiasts those guys are experts and could give you the exact code and how to fix it if it is something serious.I think this came up a few weeks ago but I don't remember what the code meant .Sorry
