getting drowsy happens to alot of people while driving. You become mezmerized by the road and you just start to drift off. If this happens open a window, turn up the radio or stop off and get a coffee or pop to wake up. Don't take chances driving drowsy or you'll wind up 6 feet under and maybe take someone else's life with you.

There's also a condition known as Narcolepsy which make people sleepy or just plain fall asleep anywhere, anytime. A very serious condition that needs medical attention.

Be careful!

AHA you need to have sugar tablets with you as your sugars can drop and make you sleepy
you can be overworked and driving on an empty stomache
you have been driving too long
the heat in the car can be too warm
lots of reasons are possible sleep inhibitors

the main causes are not getting enough sleep, the human body is designed to get sleepy around 3 in the afternoon (that's why latinos take siestas, they listen to their inner clock!) having too many carbs at lunch, warmth and motion, and monotony.
In the case of diabetics, maybe a drop or a rise in blood sugar levels can make you drowsy
