i.e. the epcot center, the main park, etc. which one do you think an 8-9 yr old boy/girl would enjoy most?

I think definitely Magic Kingdom. It's magical for people of all ages.

It all depends what your kids are into:
Magic Kingdom: This is the place you go to see the "magic" that makes Disney one of the top vacation destinations. If your kids like faster rides you have Space Mt., Thunder Mt., and Splash Mt. There are also classics like Small World, the teacups, Dumbo and Pirates. Some of my personal favorites are the interactive Buzz Lightyear Ride and Mickey's Philharmagic. Remember, a good majority of the rides there are for younger children. Other than that, you basically go to see the amazing fireworks and parades.
EPCOT: This park is more about good food and learning something on your trip. There are lots of hands on activities for kids (i.e., they have kidcot stops at all of the countries and main attractions-these are basically stops where the kids get to collect little crafts that are related to the attraction they're visiting. They also have two places called innoventions east and west. These are places where kids get to have hands-on experiences with scientific experiments and presentations. There are also places such as journey into imagination and the human body building which are also hands-on learning experiences. There are lots more, but these are the main ones.) The Living Seas is an "underwater" adventure with real sea life and all of the Nemo cast. The have also recently added an attraction called The Seas, I'm not positive what it is as they were just finishing it when I last went there. The two must see attractions are Test Track and Soarin'. These two are ones the whole family will enjoy and they're amazing! (Soarin' is my favorite ride on Disney property.) Also, Mission: Space is really fun, but I wouldn't suggest it if you or your kids get motion sickness easily. It's an intense ride. Epcot also has an amazing fireworks display every evening. But just to warn you, if your kids tire easily, this is not the park for you. It's fun, but it's HUGE. EPCOT= Every Person Comes Out Tired
Disney's MGM: This park is fun as well, but you may find yourself running into problems if your kids are short. While there are a few attractions aimed towards younger kids, the majority have height restrictions and are aimed toward older audiences. The Rockin Roller Coaster and Tower of terror are tons of fun, but make sure you check heights before you go. There are a few classics like the Great Movie Ride, the Backlot tour, Startours, and Indiana Jones that are great family attractions. But other than that, there isn't much for 8-9 year olds. In the evening they have a laser show called Fantasmic which is neat.
Animal Kindgom: For children who are 8-9, this is the park I suggest. There are faster paced rides, but an 8 or 9 year old would have no problem getting on anything. And all of them are fun for the whole family. The rides are perfect for all age ranges. My top picks at the AK are Expedition Everest (it's a roller coaster, but it's not really intense), Dinosaur, It's Tough to be a Bug, Kilamanjaro Safaries, and River Rapids. There is also a parade during the day. The only disadvantage to this park is that it closes earlier that all of the other parks.

Honestly, I have an 11 year old and 7 year old, and they enjoy all of the parks. Every park has something in it that appeals to everyone, from toddler to adult. If you are restricted and can only go to one park, I would without a doubt go to the Magic Kingdom. Every time we visit it is inevitable that we end up back at the Magic Kingdom. If you are staying long enough to enjoy the other parks, the only one I would potentially skip may be MGM. There are a ton of attractions there and the night time show is outstanding, but in terms of total overall appeal it is the lowest of the four for the kids, but that is just my opinion. I am taking the family in two weeks and we will be hitting all of the parks.
My suggestion is to let the kids help you decide. What we do when we are going to Disney is pick up a couple of guide books and go to the Disneyworld website, then make a list of our "must see" attractions. Unless you are staying for an extended period it is almost impossible to see everything, which is not necessarily a bad thing, because it gives you an excuse to go back (not that you really need one!). What we do is pick up the two Birnbaum's guides, the regular guide to WDW, and then the Kids version, for Kids by Kids. There is a ton of info in there, especially the kids version. Also the website is very informative, and you can make an ID for free, then make a list of your favorites, almost liek bookmarking them.

The Magic Kingdom would be a good guess since there is something for everyone. However, my family's personal favorite is Epcot. They have really great rides for everyone plus they have these stations that are called KidCot, these are where the kids can do a craft at different areas of the park, usually every country has them and different rides throughout Future World. You can also buy a passport and have everyone from each country stamp and sign your child's name in that country's language. Lastly the fireworks/Laser show is not to be missed.

For those ages, I would recommend the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. EPCOT and the Disney Studios are more geared for older kids and adults. However some kids really enjoy EPCOT. Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom have the most rides and the most thrill rides, overall. Enjoy your vacation!

Definitely Magic Kingdom; with Animal Kingdom coming in at a close second. Seeing Cinderella's castle and the parade down Main Street is something that a child will never forget.
I would reccommend MGM for the adults and EPCOT for those who like to travel.

Magic Kingdom is good for you and old a like. That is the best Disney park(s). Epcot is interesting too!

The Magic Kingdom, especially if they're familiar with the classic Disney stories (Cinderella, Peter Pan, Snow White, etc).
New this year to the Magic Kingdom is the Monsters Inc Comedy Floor, which is based on the famous Pixar film.
Do you have to choose? I hope that you have enough time to visit all of the parks. They're all special in their own right.

I think they would enjoy the main park. My favorite was the MGM Studios, but I haven't been to Disney World in over 7 years.

for that age,the Magic Kingdom is the best.
they want to ride rides and the magic kingdom has rides for the less adventurous ('its a small world') to the more thrill seeking ('space mountain' a roller coaster in the dark,'thunder mountain' a runaway roller coaster ride down the side of a mountain').
there's a lot to do and the day is capped off with a parade and fireworks at the end.
take lots and lots of pictures of them at the park. i took my niece to disney when she was four,took lots of pictures and put together a photo album and cd slide show. she remembers so much more of it because she sees the pics and tells me 'oh i remember this' or 'oh i remember that'.
pace yourself and don't let the crowds get to you. let the kids have fun and do the activities they want to do,not necessarily what you think they should do. they'll have more fun because they got to do what they wanted and you'll have more fun because they weren't being difficult because they didn't get to do something.
IMPT:
lastly take advantage of fastpass. it'll save you a lot of time. visit a major ride. get your fastpass for an hour or so from now,go grab lunch,come back and get to the front of the line with very little wait. this is a wonderful thing...

Magic Kingdom for sure. You could spend a week there and still not see everything. Epcot, y'all will probably be done with in a day.
