OK, from rocks to element, perhaps we call the rocks ore and the process of making the ore into an element is smelting. Iron ore is made into iron by putting it in a blast furnace with coal or coke and blowing air through it to make the carbon remove the oxygen from the iron oxide ore to make iron. This is smelting and the place it is done is called a smelter.

it might be decompostion cuz decompostion mean u break a complex compound into simple elements.
