It occurs to me that there are numerous health club franchises in Australia that do not allow male membership (Fernwood, Curves, etc). Excessive drinking significantly shortens your life span, yet males aren't even allowed an all male bar (Tattersalls). How come?

That is a great question, and the funny thing is they make fun of it in their advertising when they have a guy dressed as a chick trying to get a membership in a womans only club! If this was done in reverse there would be an outcry from womens groups around the world!!

Could be because a lot of the musclehead types accost the women, and we don't want to be bothered by the likes of them. I have home workout equipment, so that's no issue. Not that I wouldn't tell them to go to Hell and how to get there if they started that stuff, though :)
