Both. After a serious car accident, I began getting grey hair, at age 17. Some people who have had a traumatic experience have been known to turn white haired.

Gray hairs are caused by stress and genetics. Genetic hair color encoded in your DNA will eventually turn your hair a certain color in wich is determined by your specific DNA code. Stress also causes your hair to turn another color because of the pressure your inner body handles. This means, the more stress you go through means the more inner pressure you intake, and your body uses more brain cells than usual. causing your hair to turn either WHITE, GRAY, or another various color. NOTE!!!! YOUR HAIR IS DEAD CELLS PUSHED OUT OF YOUR HEAD ONE CELL BY ONE CELL. THAT IS WHY YOUR HAIR GROWS AND GETS LONGER. Hope i helped...

both, i have friends that are bored with grey hairs and they are like 14 and 15 and they have it passed down from generation to generation. also, you can get greys from stress, some times it doenst happen but if you stress alot you will get greys thats why wen mom and dads say your givin me grey hair it means ur stressin them out.
