How do I send an e-mail to a large amount of people (at my university)?

Question

I'm trying to do something both quite interesting and beneficial so I'd like people all around to get involved (at least get informed)--the more, the better!

Of course, e-mail is the much faster and easier way to get this information disseminated out there, but the trouble is it does not appear to be easy since there does not seem to be enough mailing lists (i.e. from my search through various places so far) that happen to include enough amount of people.

I don't think you can use stuff like Facebook or Myspace to send mass e-mails? (First of all, these people should at least be from my university--better if the same department.)

If anyone happens to have an idea or two, please share them if you want because I'm already rather exhausted from this. Thanks very much!!

PS Although it appears that I may call the legal office at the school to request the disclosure of such information, but I'd rather not resort to this method. On the other hand, although there's a school directory website where you can look up everyone's contact information, but it can only be done one at a time--which would take way too much time!

on all the people you want to sent the same email put them in a catagory like friends that way when you are ready to sent a good one go to insert names and click catagories and check friends bcc
