Hey! I eloped in Virginia too! Sometimes I do wish I had the big wedding but when I think about all the stress and people trying to give me their opinion on my day I am grateful for what I did. I did get to wear a white dress (not a big poofy wedding dress but one I can easily dye and wear again) and my Mom was also present but other than that it was very simple, cheap and great! We ended up using the money we saved for an excellent honeymoon in Maui which also makes me glad we didn't waste our money on a big wedding.

My husband and I eloped about a year and a half ago and YES, I really wish that I had the big wedding. So, to fix that... we are planning to have our reaffirmation of the wedding vows this July. We are treating this as if it were THE wedding! However, I am not having a bridal shower, bachelorette party, etc. My dad is going to walk me down the aisle, I will be wearing white, etc. We have two kids as well and I am in full wedding planning mode!!!
I actually posted a question about registering for gifts and got quite a lot of negative feedback on it, so feel free to read their comments. I do not agree with what most of them said because everyone who is involved in our wedding is totally supportive of it, even though we are "legally" married!

My husband and I eloped 29 years ago this may. I have no regrets whatsoever about having a big wedding.
The one thing I do regret is that my mother couldn't be present for the ceremony at the Justice of the Peace. My husband and I decided to elope because my father was behaving like a jerk over our decision to get married, and I came to the conclusion that if I had my mother come out and be with me at the ceremony it would just cause more trouble between me and my father, and my mother and my father.
I still think I did the only thing it was possible for me to do, but I regret like hell that I had to hurt my mom that way. That's the only regret I had.

I'm on my third marriage, and have never had a big wedding. First one was a small ceremony with just the family present, the second time we eloped in Vegas, and the third time it was an informal wedding that was spontaneous and fun. I love going to other people's big weddings, but I have never wanted to have one for myself. I much prefer the low-stress, low-pressure setting. So no, I have never wished to have a big wedding, and I still don't.

We didn't elope, but we had a very inexpensive wedding. It was many years ago, and yes I still sometimes feel like I missed something. Think about making the reception as celebratory as you want it. Maybe you should think about wearing a white dress, having a cake, having flowers, having a photographer, etc.

I had a big wedding. Sometimes I'm thrilled to have had the dress, aisle, etc. Other times, I'm bummed about the amount of money we spent and how much it would have helped us out to have saved it.

Yes! Completely. My Husband and I were together for 7 years March 3 and we just got married in December. It was only him,me, my parent, the preacher and his wife. I still want my wedding. I have always dreamed of the Wedding day! I was also sick with the flu, so it worked out better.

You could have the wedding of your dreams by having a renewal of vows ceremony on your 5 year anniversary.
