Severeal reasons:
Firstly, you shouldn't use the schools facilities for pointless things, like social network - the facilities are there to assist with your work - it uses unncessary system resources when someone else could use them for more practical things. Moreover, its a waste of your time - do those things at home, not in school-time.
Secondly, is the risk. Pupils may be exposed to illegal or pornogrpahic material, or worse, personal details could be found by a predator or otherwise - schools don't want the responsibility if something goes wrong..

As fun a place as MySpace may be, it is risky. The school doesn't want to be legally on the hook if you end up hurt or in danger because of the site, so they don't allow you to get there from school. If you want to assume the risk and get on MySpace anyway, you need to use your own computer, not the school's. They don't want to be a party to your risky behavior.
Also, they want you using the computers to get your work done instead of playing on MySpace. If YOUR work is all done, good for you! But even if you have some time to kill on the school computer, you need to stick to sites that aren't blocked. MySpace will still be there when you get home.

MySpace, and other popular sites like it, have been used for cyber-bullying. In other words, a few rotten apples have spoiled the whole bunch. School administrations are being held accountable about what takes place on the schools' computers. If there is any hint of liability, you can be sure they will act to protect the students and themselves.

Because its too big of a distraction from learning. MySpace also seems to attract lots of preteen and teenage drama which just causes problems. So you log into MySpace during computer class or whatever, and you find out that your BFF defriended you because you left a comment on her boyfriend's myspace, and when you see her in the hallway on the way to gym class, you get into a big fight, everyone's late to class, you're in detention, it's all bad.

Because it's a distraction, you're at school to learn, not play on the computer. Besides aren't all your friends AT school?
However you can argue that employees who are allowed to do whatever they like online are more efficient workers then if they're not allowed, so you could argue you'd be better students if you were allowed this freedom. If it's important the students can petition the school for change. The school can simply keep tabs on what you kids say through the connections to make sure you're not being stupid about it.

its because of all the spam that con be put on the computers, and the inappropriate things that kids will find on other people's pages and they could also be being cruel or saying mean things about kids that are at their school
and like other people have said, the computers aren't there for kids to get on myspace when they have free time in study halls they are there for them to do papers, and reserach USEFUL information and get an education

Many reasons
1) you can infect the school network with all the malware floating around on myspace
2) you are at school to learn not to waste your time on that kind of site
3) school systems are for learning, not playing
4) the school is responsible for you while you are there and myspace is a playground for predators

Pages like MySpace add a lot of spyware to your computer. It is also a good way to get a virus.

Schools don't want to be held responsible for their students getting abducted by stalkers that lurk on myspace.
