20 minutes or High Intensity Interval Training thrice a week is all you need.
You can do it on a cardio machine like a stationarty bike or elliptical machine or tradmill.
if you prefer jogging,

jog for 5 minutes at a normal rate,
then jog at your maximum speed possible for one minute or run.
jog slowly for the next minute to catch your breath.

repeat this five times.

three minutes of slow joggin for cool down..

Way effective than normal walking or jogging. Gives you a hard toning too..

30 minutes every day is better. But alter the activity to avoid boredom. Walk and/orjog different routes. Use exercise equipment occasionally, such as a stepper or eliptical. And have some fun; basketball, raquetball, tennis, something to get the heart rate elevated.

30 minutes daily, would be my choice. It's harder to make yourself jog every day, but this way your muscles won't be as sore as they'd be after an hour.
Or maybe walk one day for an hour, jog the next day for half an hour... If you're fit enough.
Just listen to your body.
