Sabbath was made for man. This means, on the sabbath day man should retrieve from all his work and should Honor and Glorify God.

Not the man for sabbath means, though man should not any works on sabbath, he should help other man in need.
In other words one should never stand back helping others in need in the name of sabbath.

The Sabbath was the 7th day. Also the 7th year, and the 50th year was the year of Jubilee. God commanded a Sabbath for man because on the 7th day of creation He rested from His work. He wanted us all to have time not to work, so He commanded a Sabbath in His Law. However, over time, as all things eventually do, the purpose of the Law became forgotten and the Law itself rose up and many were persecuted and punished for not obeying it. So when Jesus came (He IS the Word of God) He explained this to us, that man was not meant to be a slave to the Sabbath, the Sabbath was made for man.

Mar 2:27 And he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
Mar 2:28 So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath."
(ESV Translation)

Christ closed His discourse by reminding the Pharisees that the Sabbath was instituted by God for man's benefit, not for his bondage. He added that the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath—He had given the Sabbath in the first place.

Therefore He had authority to decide what was permissible and what was forbidden on that day. Certainly the Sabbath was never intended to prohibit works of necessity or deeds of mercy. Christians are not obligated to keep the Sabbath. That day was given to the nation of Israel.

The distinctive day of Christianity is the Lord's Day, the first day of the week. However, it is not a day encrusted with legalistic do's and don't's. Rather it is a day of privilege when, free from secular employments, believers may worship, serve, and attend to the culture of their souls. For us it is not a question, “Is it wrong to do this on the Lord's Day?” but rather “How may I best use this day to the glory of God, to the blessing of my neighbor, and to my spiritual good?”

Look at the order of creation man was created before the Sabbath. As a gift to man, as a way for man to rest, for man to keep his life centered on God, God gave him, or made for him the day of rest. And so Sabath was a day made for man.

God gave us the sabbath for the same reason he "rested" after his work of creation ... so that we could sit back and appreciate all that God provides ... hopefully getting a bit closer to God, in the process.

The corrupt Pharisees and Saducees had turned the sabbath into an onerous observance, not one of joy and peace, in the Lord.

The sabbath is just another of God's gifts to mankind, and it became even more important after man fell, and was forced to earn a living by the sweat of his brow.

For much of modern day history, Sunday was the only day of rest the average working person would ever get, courtesy of God and his church.

The Sabbath was made for our benefit

This is what it means.

The argument is that the law itself requires work that breaks the sabbath rest, because of the higher duty of temple service. If temple duties outweigh the sabbath law, how much more does the presence of Jesus, with his proclamation of the kingdom (something greater than the temple), justify the conduct of his disciples.

Peace!

Jesus Christ is our Sabbath. It is in Him we rest, and we can do no "work" to add to the work that was already done on the cross. Originally in the OT the Sabbath was given to us as a means for us to rest, relax, and give thanks to God.

Ever wondered why God rested on the 7th day? He certainly wasn't tired right? He was giving us a model to base our lives upon, that is where we come up with the "week" concept. God bless, here is a pecan log roll for you to enjoy.

Man wasn't made for the sabbath because God dose not need man to worship, God dose not Need anything.
