I would be considered "white trash" and I have no problem with that. What makes one white trash and what puts one above that level?

rednecks and white trash are very different. I was dubbed white trash because I grew up in the inner city not a farm nor trailer park

Given that the word 'trash' is in the term, then yes, it is meant to be an insulting and derogatory designation.

White trash is generally defined as being completely ignorant, uncultured, 'stupid Americans'. People in this category can be so termed also because of substance abuse, poor taste, lower financial status (obviously an unfair reason), and a narrow worldview. Furthermore, certain groups fall into this category easier than others, such as single mothers with lots of kids or 'rednecks'.

A lot of people really don't warrant the name of 'white trash', but it is bestowed upon them based on a superficial view of that person. Probably the best way to rise above it would be to prove oneself a thoughtful, productive, and overall meaningful individual.

It is like alot of terms, it is not necessarily the words themselves, but it is how and by whom they are said. White trash was originally penned as a derogatory term for people with low income brackets who inhabited trailer parks, etc and had very little if any social morals as they didn't have the 'education' to know any better. It's great you feel comfortable with the label, but I wouldn't necessarily say t's anything to be proud of considering the term's history. All I would say without wanting to sound patronising, is be proud of who you are and where you come from, but avoid social categories because, like it or not they can hold negativie connotations, which you can do with out !

this is not often seen "obscene" yet is many times insulting. I hear white-human beings use it to describe different white human beings. I even have heard people who could be seen "white trash" use it to describe themselves (as a count of delight). as an occasion, Toby Keith, Rosanna Barr, and others have the two used the notice to communicate over with themselves. that's often an particularly reliable notice that could desire to be prevented. this is not practically as hateful because of fact the "N" notice yet comes close. by using the way, do not you like it while somebody copies content fabric from "Wikipedia" into Yahoo solutions!

I'm not white but yet I can answer your question. Yes ,the term white trash is very insulting. The reason I tell you this is because ,God created all mankind, all creeds and colors. When God created you, He created a master piece, a one of a kind and an original. To see that you are not white trash is to realize who your creator is. God loves you and He dose'nt create trash.

No more or less insulting than N*gga, Wetb*ck, Sp*c, Wigga, Oreo Cookie Coconut, Banana, -- it's mainly in the context in which it's use and which racial group is making the call.

What makes one White Trash-- typically when your behavior is insulting, aggressive, loud and obnoxious, racist, sexist, homophobic, discriminatory, etc., etc. Also can be used if you live in what many consider a trashy neighborhood and behave like a Neanderthal (backwards and stupid).

Best cure for the name (and how to undo it) is to change your behavior- present yourself as open minded, interested in others, considerate, thoughtful, educated, accepting, etc. However, b/c it's often used for those who are poor and live a life of poverty (in trailers and poor neighborhoods), those who collect food stamps, have tons of kids from various dads (or even just one)... one typically has to make tangible lifestyle changes to undo the term.

yes it is a racist slur .White trash is a derogatory term with a classist component targeted almost exclusively at non-Latino white people and connoting low social status or poor prospects (i.e., downward mobility) or lack of education. To call someone white trash is to accuse a white person of being economically, educationally or culturally bankrupt.

It is either insulting or ridiculous, depending on your POV, but always decidedly ignoble.
It is an epithet similar to the "n-word."

"Redneck" OTOH, can be used as either an insult or a term of endearment, depending on the context and utterer.

Supposedly what makes white trash is someone who lives in trailer parks, has a southern/oakie accent, drives a dirty pickup truck, drinks beer and is on welfare.
But I don't think it's very insulting.
