A question like this is what you get with Ideology lacking Reality. This country was founded to be conservative. Was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics. Do you really think that a people who had just escaped an oppressive government would really want more of it. They wanted freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
Liberals have long perverted the constitution and Roosevelts New Deal took a huge leap away from the conservative foundation of our nation. We NeoCons are trying to return our country to that foundation.
That greed you refer to is capitalism - I know you would have us be communist. You would take and take from those who have taken the opportunities afforded to each citizen and succeeded to give to those who choose to remain downtroden.
Your idealism is lacking in reality. Government is not the solution, most times it is the problem. True conservatives seek less govenment, more personal responsibility.
Congress should do its job, for once. It should legislate as little as necessary and stop trying to expand its "constitutional" power.

I would hardly consider Jefferson and Franklin as "conservative". They were rebels and wanted to break with England. They would be ashamed of how Bush was against stem cell funding because of fear of the xtian wacko's.
