Who really knows why Bush does what he does anymore.....for me, it's great entertainment. Like watching rats trapped in a dumpster turn on themselves.....Tom DeLay is ripping into Newt Gingrich and Dick Armey now, according to the latest news stories.........

The issue seems to be are they going after people, regardless of party, and prosecuting malefactors. Congressman Cunningham of San Diego was put away for sometime. He was a top Republican in the House. He was vigorously prosecuted by one of the U.S. Attorneys who was fired mid-term.

Presidents occasionally fire U.S. Attorneys mid term but it is very rare. At the beginning of their term most presidents ask for the resignation and get it. But mid term is most unusual unless it is political as it seems now. Clinton did ask for resignations but nearly every one was at the beginning of his term. It is NOT like ambassadors or the like.

It seems that they were fired because they weren't tough enough on Democrats. Apparently even if the attorney was Republican if they were too even-handed that was enough to get you fired. The link below is to a story with an interesting perspective on the matter.

Presidents replace appointees all the time. This is no different than a president replacing a cabinet member or ambassador.
