To type French accents, hold down the ALT key, then type the three or four digits listed here. When you release the ALT key, the character will appear. You must type the numbers with the numeric keypad, not with the row of numbers across the top of your keyboard (which means that this is not the best way to type accents on a laptop - try another method for typing French accents). I am sure there are plenty of other keyboard tricks that could give you more

BEL76's long list and paali's much shorter list are all very well, but most laptops haven't got a keypad at the right and I doubt if these codes will work using the numbers along the top. If you're using an ordinary PC, these codes certainly
work only when using the keypad.
Does your laptop have the AltGr key ? It's on the right of the space-bar on an ordinary keyboard. If it does, you can generate most of the characters needed for writing Spanish: á, Á, é, É, í, Í, ó, Ó, ú and Ú, as well as € (with the '4' key), but not, as far as I know, ñ, Ñ, ª, º, ¿ or ¡
When writing French, the commonest accented letters are é and à. I suppose you could use the AltGr key to type á instead of à and most people wouldn't even notice.

What like this. They are obtained by using ASCII characters. Hold down the ALT key and type in a three digit code on the keypad, not the top line of numbers, then release the ALT key. Asciitable.com has the whole list of characters with their numbers from french accents to drawing tables with the keyboard.

Yes you can. When you are on a writing page, like mail or filling in forms, right click, you will see "Languages" click on it, choose "Add", then you will be shown a list of many country names. Click the language to install the dictionary ( only takes less than 3 seconds ). Now on your writing page again, again you right click. then languages, then the new dictionary you just downloaded. When you write, even what you type doesn't show the accent, your spelling check would make the change for you automatically.

Well, I'm pretty sure everyone can change there keyboard's language. For example I can change mine from English to French to get the right accents.

In case you want to write in, I believe it is better to add the keyboard of that language, so that you can switch to it and type. Whereas, if you want to be able to see accents in what you read -instead of some garbage- you had better changing the "encoding" in the "view" tab in IE.

First of all, you should get an "international keyboard" to be sure that all your accents will be printed as such. It does not always with any other keyboard.
