Yep, Buzz said that. That part of the conversation was:

Aldrin: Beautiful view!
Armstrong: Isn't that something! Magnificent sight out here.
Aldrin: Magnificent desolation.

My favourite quote was the one from Pete Conrad - the third man on the Moon.

He was quite a bit shorter than Neil Armstrong so when he went down the ladder he exclaimed "Whoopee, that may have been a short step for Neil, but it was a long one for me!"

He should have been first on the moon. At least he wouldn't have said: "One small step for man; one giant leap for mankind." Surely it should have been: One small step for a man.........
