'Mong' is a slang word originally referring to people with Down's Syndrome. It originated from 'mongoloid' or 'mongolian', as people thought that people with Down's looked like people from Asia ('mongolian' was used to describe people from Asia). Nowadays people seem to use it as a synonym for 'stupid', but in my opinion 'mong' is offensive and definitely a word to avoid.

'Idiot' originates from Greek ('idiotes') via Latin and Old French.
'Stupid' comes from Latin ('stupidus') via Modern French.
