London is the CAPITAL of England, so English would be the predominant language. But you said "people in England," so the answer could also be Spanish, Italian, Hindi, Punjabi, Arabic, Turkish, and on and on...

People in London speak a form of English known as Estuary English, which is most common in and around London and the general southeast part of England. You should do ok with your English there...they will almost always understand what Americans are saying, we simply don't speak with the same accent as they do. I have been to London myself, and if you are asking this question because you are going there soon I strongly suggest visiting The London Dungeon, The Clink, and Madame Toussaud's. It's a very exciting city! Try the steak pie in the pubs...it's delicious. Don't get it with kidney, though, I tried that once and didn't enjoy it much. Hope this helps.

Which people? Being an international city, you'd hear all the major languages spoken there. Obviously English is the most common.
Is this a trick question? :)
