HYDROGEN CHLORIDE DECOMPOSITION
Aqueous solutions of Hydrogen Chloride act as very acidic stuffs. Undergoing these stuffs to galvanic applications you may obtain HYDROGEN bubbles at the Cathode (Electrode having - Minus Polarity, IRON-BASED MATTER) and some other gas at the ANODE (Electrode having + Electrical Polarity, GRAPHITIC MATTER).
DILUTE SOLUTIONs act very slowly and may pollute the Anodic Gas Collected manily in Oxygen bubbles : you must prefer CONCENTRATED MEDIA, so you may control the Oxygen formation and the other pollutant gas product (e.g. Carbon Monoxide an Dioxide).
Elsewhere, Concentrated Media need greater Electrical Power to the Electrodic Apparatus : OverTension Phenomena permitted Chlorine Evolvement on the Anode but it increase continuously the Requested Tension while you must rise the Electrical Current ((e.g. Current as the Plant's Power).

PURE HYDROGEN CHLORIDE
Hydrogen Chloride is a gas, a very dangerous chemical stuff.
This gas react strongly with water in all its forms, as it may be air's moisture : when this gas is spread in moist air it appears as whitish fumes by means of its interaction with water's vapours.
DON'T INHALATE ITS FUMES!
PROTECT YOU, USE APPROPRIATE GLOVES and EYE's PROTECTIONs!
DON'T STORE ITS VESSEL NEAR HEAT's SOURCE or EXPOSED TO SUN's RAYONs!

HYDROGEN CHLORIDE's PRODUCTION
Historical notes reported it was discovered (see Alchemists) by adding Sulphuric Acid to Kitchen's Salt.
Nowadays, chemical industries forms Hydrogen Chloride starting from its elements, e.g. Hydrogen Gas and Chlorine One.
An "Inner Ceramic Wall" 's Chemical Reactor mix the two chemical elements in a fashion to form the Synthesis Mixture in the Inner Volume, so it avoid a previous Gas-Contact (see Explosion Risks).
Gas-Stream Product undergoes condensation in order to condensate Hydrogen Chloride despite its reactants do not (Hydrogen cannot condensate, Chlorine condensate only under high pressure). This fashion permit the Recycling Operatin of the precious Reactants.
This industry serve not only PURE and GASEOUS Hydrogen Chloride, so it proceeds also to production of ITS AQUEOUS SOLUTIONs. As I overwritten, Hydrogen Chloride shows a very great chemical affinity toward water.
Blowing up the acidic gas-stream in an aqueous bath, the liquid's temperature rises depending on the "HCl/H2O" 's Enthalpy of Reaction. The bath's temperature may rise to values permitting evolution of acidic fogs. An efficient condensation system rescue the hydrogen chloride entrapped in the fogs : the acidic mixture leads in a "Two Stage Units" as a LUWA-Type where undergoes concentration of HCl/H2O's System belonging to "Maximum Temperature's Homo-Azeotrope"'s Ones.

I hope this helps you.

The best way to separate HCl into its components is by electricity. Dissolve it in water to form a very strong acid and separate the hydrogen and chlorine by electrolysis.

when we reeact HCL with ZN we get ZNCL2 and H2. ZNCL2 can further be electrolysed to get cl2.
