I am starting a very small business. I have looked online to see if the name I've chosen is taken yet, and it is not. My question is, when I do a fictitious name registration, do I just put the name I want to use, or do I also need to include if it is Inc. or LLC, etc..? For example, If my company is called Little Dog Productions, is that all I list, or do I need to have the legal structure decided 1st, and list it as Little Dog Productions, Inc.??? I have searched everywhere to find this answer and I can't seem to find it anywhere, so hopefully, someone out there can help me!

Go to your courthouse and register the business name. If you're registering a business in any name other than your given name, it's called a DBA (Doing Business As) and may be registered in the courthouse when you purchase your business license. Under 50 bucks

You can register your business online through the state's website. For most states, the web address is ...

www.st.gov

(where ST is the 2-letter abbreviation for the state).

Look for a link to BUSINESS.

During the registration process, you should be notified if the business name is available.

You can register it any way you wish. The only thing most registrars care about is getting their $$, and you can always change it later if you want.
