Each human has the ability to withstand a certain amount of anything in their body. Some people , due to genetics or environmental conditioning, have the ability to withstand higher amounts of certain chemicals. For example, some people in the dessert southwest are able to drink water that has high concentrations of arsenic. They become conditioned to this by drinking water form areas which have some arsenic in it. People from outside these areas get sick when they drink the water.
