People tend to think of life as having a metaphysical "energy." Now where this metaphysical energy goes is anyone's guess; religion and philosophy have different answers. In the scientific sense, this energy is nothing more than the triumph of a symphony of cells which work together to produce you. When you die, your mass (which is really another form of energy in physics terms) gets converted into elements like CO2, N2, and other chemicals for the soil. The heat energy in your body slowly dissipates and goes into outer space. The energy generated by the beating of your heart also diffuses into the earth's soil and eventually into outer space. Thus, your life's kinetic and potential energy get transformed into heat and bond energy found in organic molecules.

Our bodies decompose because bacteria and other microscopic organisms are constantly consuming our dead cells.

Remember, when we were alive, we ate dead animals and plants for energy. They are doing the same... by consuming our dead cells, they are converting them into energy which they can then use to do their biological functions to stay alive.

Bacteria aren't the only creatures that may be interested in our carcus. Gators and lions have been known to snack on a human every once in a while as well.

Energy is stored in the bonds that atoms form.. For example, in H20 (water), two hydrogen atoms bond with an oxygen atom. Those bonds, when broken, release energy. When we consume other chemicals (everything is a chemical) our body basically break down the bonds, releasing energy into our bodies. Or, in our death, releasing energy into our consumer's body.

The energ diaapates into our atmosphere and also into the surrounding envoirment, presumably underground. The most part of te energy is given off as radiation, usually in the form of heat.
There is the other option at saying it goes with our soul, and allthough i myself dont belive, a german(i think i could be wrong) weighed people just before and just after deat and conluded that the human soul weighs 4milli grams

It dissipates as heat. Some by conduction or convection and some by radiation.
