she will pass it (I did it with a penny) but a nickle is a bit larger and it might clog her intestins Id watch her closely if she stops having bowl movements take her to the er, if she starts vomiting or developes a fever she may have an infection or intestinal blockages any unnormal behavior and Id take her to the DR asap just in case

If it has not passed in 72 hours- she may need to see a doctor.
Also- inform a doctor if at anytime in the next 72 hours she has a change in appetite, sleep pattern, rashes, basically anything out of the ordinary because obviously it can be a sign something is wrong.
My 2 year old swallowed a penny back at Christmas and it came out later that very night.
If you have any worries, call your doctor or local urgent care immediately.

I was told that they can pass anything smaller than a quarter as long as it doesn't have sharp edges or anything so a nickel should be fine. There is a nurses hot-line you can call at anytime (day or night) just to put you mind at ease. It is usually though a children's hospital in your area. I have it on speed dial! I have call them for all kinds of things....(1st time mommy) and they are great.

Most times it will pass on its own, I do however know a lady whose baby swollowed a coin. I dont know what one, and when they took an x-ray they found that it was stuck up and down not flat, so she could still breath, but if it were to turn it would block off her air supply. I would go to the doctor, and demand that they take an x-ray. It is well worth the money if you have to pay for it yourself. Her daughter had to go in for surgery to remove it. Good Luck, I hope that your daughters went right to her belly.

If you're concerned, take her to the ER to get an X-ray, but chances are, she'll be fine. My kid sister used to swallow pennies and nickels all the time, and she passed them without any problem; she's 48 now!!!

ok,i think you should have called the hospital first or maybe the ambulance as it could have blocked your childs airways. seeing this hasnt happen take your child to a gp. but the child will if not already may have passed it, ask the gp to send your child for a scan to see if the nickel has gone through or if its still there, one of my children swallowed a watch battery, after the scan etc ,the battery safely passed through with no damage done inside, best of luck

I would at least take her to the ER and have them look and make sure it went on down. If it is still in her throat, it could get turned and lodge in a way that would stop her breathing. If it went on down, then it will pass at some point.

Congradulations, you have a normal little kid. My brother swallowed a quarter when he was 3. It comes out on it's own.
