"Oxygen molecules have an average speed of 480 m/s at 25 degrees Celsius. What is the average speed of HI speed molecules at that temperature?"

If you understand this question could you please tell me what formula you used to get it? Thanks

Hey!

Here's the formula you need:

square root of [(8kT)/(pi*mass)]

Dont forget your units..temp is in kelvins..mass needs to be kg.

Hope it helps..

Under the assumptions of the ideal gas law and the kinteic molecular theory, all gas molecules behave the same with regard to temperature.

So if the speed of O2 molecules is 480 m/s at 25 C (298 K), then HI molecules would behave exactly the same.
