Each state and territory in Australia has its own police force, they all operate independtly of each other. I do know that the northen territory police force were activly recruiting UK police a couple of years ago, I don't know if they still are.

Contact each state force directly in Australia. If one of them decides to give you a job, then they sponsor you for a work visa, and that is when you go to the Australian High Commission in London to sort out your visa. Don't bother contacting them directly, they are not really an advisory centre, they just process applications.

The Australian Federal Police
These are the federal force. They operate in all states, they are responsible for large white collar crime, money laundering, large fraud, international liason, and a lot of the anti-terrorism work. They are also responsible for community policing in the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra). Very difficult to get into.
