i only wanted to get the core because i don't want to go online with it. But i hear you need the HDD for some new games. Is this true?

Yes and No. There are some new games that requires you to either use a memory card or a hard drive. Splinter Cell: Double Agent is a game that comes to mind. So, if you don't have a hard drive or a memory unit, you better read the back of the game carefully to see if you can play it if you don't have the hard drive or the memory card.

The premium isn't solely for online. It's for playing some XBX games and for game saves. You can play online without the hard drive.

Well, you can play any game w/o a hard drive or memory card but you won't be able save. I would buy a hard drive because the 64mb memory cards won't be nearly enough. I only play 3 or 4 games and I already used 12 GB of the 20GB hard drive.
