Here are some cons that you may not have thought of. When your child is ready for school part of the projects are a family tree (she will only be able to do one side - thereby raising questions from her classmates), no father figure to attend all the little events in her life (and yes I know that there are single Moms that don't have partners). Hopefully you have a supportive family that will back you up, the lady I mentioned was an only child with no living relatives - this made it especially hard to raise a child by herself.

The pros - a lifetime that you can give love and devotion to a part of your soul.

I can't imagine having kids without my husband. If you are only planning one it might not be too bad. I think the pro's would be that you intentionally want to be a parent. That can be a rare thing these days. I think a con is parenting is really 24/7 and its nice to have the support of a spouse. If you feel the tick of your biological clock you still have time. I had my last child at 37 and everything was great.

Good luck whatever you decide :)

I think you should investigate the children of donor insemination. They are not having a good time. Every child deserves to know who his or her father is. Check out this story first www.ispsnews.net/interna.asp?idnews=21721

On the other hand, there are so many children who are in the foster care system who would love to have a real family.

As a mom and one who did it single for almost 10 years, the biggest disadvantage aside from financial issues was that my daughter never had a father figure around. It was really damaging to her self-esteem even though I tried to be very proactive about affirming her value as a person. Also, It was harder to discipline and I didn't have anyone to share her triumphs with or who would let me vent when she was being terribly frustrating.

When i met my husband, he was a single dad too. Unfortunately, his son has worse issues than my daughter.

There is a reason that it takes two people to create and raise a child. It was meant to be that way because children need a minimum of their two parents, and then additionally extended family as well.

The biggest factor you need to consider is not financial.

Yes it is hard, but it can also be done very easily if you have a good network of people around you. Parents, friends, siblings...they all make great baby sitters. I was a single mom for a while when my hubby and I seperated. I worked full time, while still managing to spend quality time with our son. We are all back together again...It will work out for you too. Good luck.
