Atm. no. is the number of protons or positive charges. In a neutral atom, the number of protons equals the number of electrons, so the atomic number is also the number of electrons. However, electrons can be lost or gained, so that doesn't always match.

Atomic mass equals the number of protons plus neutrons.

The atomic number is the number equals the number of PROTONS (inside the nucleus)or ELECTRONS(outside the nucleus revolving around it).

while the atomic mass equals the number of PROTONS + NEUTRONS
