For some it is important and part of that is due to tradition and what it's assumed society expects of people in general (grow up, college, get married, have kids, etc).
However, it's not a necessity for anyone as we can live without it. It's a desire for many...but more and more people (men and women) are choosing to put it off 'til later in life, or not at all.

It depends totally on whether you buy into the socially accepted "norm" or not. Personally, I don't think marriage is necessary for anyone. For some even, I don't think marriage is smart. For others, yes, perhaps it is. It just really depends on what you need personally in your life to be happy, but a word of caution, you must be happy with yourself first. If not, it doesn't matter what it is, marriage or otherwise, you'll not be happy with "the next thing", because you're not internally happy first.

No, I have lots of girlfriends who never married or had children, and they are very happy. Happier than my married friends are. I also have friends who are divorced and raising their children as single moms. They are much happier without a husband. They say having a husband was just like having another kid without any hope he would ever grow up and leave...

No its only a stupid way of being conformed to society. strengthen up do the school issue, get a occupation, get married, spit out some spawn, strengthen them, have a heart attack and die without retirement. Thats the way the international works. Do what you want, do not enable human beings settle on it for you.

For sure it is. Any woman that doens't get married is a fool here is why. Free $$$$.
Divorce laws favor women by far.

YES it is.And ill explain why.
Most of the men have several hobbies or things to do at their free time like watching a game, drink a beer with friends,sports,computers,cars,technology,reading etc.
What do women have?Nothing.They just sit there looking at what men doing. There is only one thing women have and could take up their free time,children.Women want and need to have kids.Marriage and then kids.

for me it is. it's not like it will make me "more" woman or anything like that, it is just that it has been a dream since I was a little girl that getting married will complete my life.

I think for me it was important for someone to love me enough to want to marry me...but marriage was not a neccesity
