on sims 2 pets?

i read on a question here on yahoo answers that if u have a collar on your pets it will keep them from getting lost or if they do get lost the missing pet will be found ONLY if they have a collar. is this true? i have bought collars for my pets and im afraid it was a waste of money cuz my family only has 273,567 dollars right now. i used a cheat. anyways plz help.

well if you used a cheat why not use the cheat again if you are worried about money??
