A scope cannot improve weapon accuracy, only user accuracy (which itself can be argued). There isn't much you can do to adjust the accuracy of the AK-47. Besides, considering the weapon is 60 years old and the most prolific assault rifle on the planet, if someone could have improved its accuracy, they would have done so by now.

The only way the AK-47 would become more accurate, would be a drastic modification. The gun has a huge bolt that when it moves to expel the casing and load the next round that it throws off any shot you make. If you watch the gun in slow motion camera, the gun is vibrating so violently that even the barrel moves around . The gun is good at keeping in the field, but when you need a bullet to get somewhere it is not the gun to have. The gun is designed for anyone to use even kids. not for marksmanship. A scope will get busted on a Kalashnikov. If you want marksmenship go with somthing that has a smaller bullet and a smother action. Why do Snipers like a good Bolt-action rifle? Because it woun't throw off their aim from the automatic action an automatic would have.

The lack of accuracy on the AK-47 has to do with two things--its short barrel and its rate of fire. Since it fires so fast, the barrel tends to rise or shoot off to the left. The AK-47 is a great weapon--quality wise also. The main problem with the M-16 is that it can clog and jam very easily. It has to be cleaned constantly. You can throw the AK-47 into a pile of mud, and still come out shooting. What the Soviet's did was take the AK-47, expanded its barrel and cut back on the muzzel velocity, producing the Dragunov sniper rifle, which is also an excellent weapon.

A scope is only helpful if the gun places bullets consistently and to do that, it would have to be a quality machined weapon.

The AK's appeal is not quality, but quantity. Superior weapons like the M-16 have tight manufacturing tolerances which means it's deadly accurate and freakin' expensive. But this quality must be well-maintained or else the gun will jam. That's why you always see new recruits in army movies constantly stripping down and reassembling their rifles.

The AKs are cheap to make because its parts are far less complicated. You can pull a lever off a Chinese made model in Angola, scrape off the mud and put it into a Korean made model in Chechnya and you're good to go.

Making the AK more accurate would defeat it's appeal. An accurate weapon would have to be better maintained, which means the user would have to be better trained and supplied.

This is why even the U.S. buys AKs to supply its allies in Iraq and Afghanistan. If it cost the same, would you rather fund and train 10 guys to use your hi-tech Armalite, or just hand out 1000 AKs to the crowd and say "get to it."?

I have a expensive AK style rifle and it is fairly accurate. Have a red dot sight on top which makes it even a little better then average. I would not want an ak shooting at me by anyone even half way trained at anywhere under 200 meters but most who use and shoot Ak's in this world use the spray and prey method of engagement. Great weapon but unlike some I would Keep my M-4 any day to reach out and touch someone.

It depends one what you mean by accurate. An AK-47 can put a 3/4" group at 100 yards. The average rifle combat takes place at about 200 yards apart. So for average combat, the AK-47 is accurate enough to keep doing head shots.

I don't buy the AK-47 not accurate crap. OK, it may not be as accurate as the M16 but at a certain point you're comparing apples and oranges. The M16 for all of its accuracy will very likely jam on you in the heat of close quatered combat and yes, that goes for the A2 as well. I have had this weapon jam on me multiple times in battlefield simulation drills and on the firing range. With the Ak, you know when you pull that trigger a big hunking piece of metal is going to come flying out of it.

There's a reason why special forces units don't use M16's.

Its not a problem with the rifle, but the ammunition. The 7.62 x 39 mm has tons of knockdown power, but loses a ton of accuracy beyond 200 m, whether you're firing an AK, an SKS, or Mini-30. You may be able to find a higher 154 grain round that could help a bit on extending the accurate range, but as others have said, it also depends on the shooter

the lack of accuracy is what makes the AK a good gun.. if the parts fit more tightly and was closer tolerences, it would be more accurate, but would be more apt to jam like the m-16. it is the poorer build quality that has actually made it a reliable gun wether wet, dirty, or abused

One thing you might do is check the rifling in your barrel, check your ammo and make sure you don't have a bad batch. do you jerk the trigger or squeeze it. I had friends that fought in Nam that swear by this weapon even though it had a slower rate of fire.
