Hi you got some answers here which some are right and some are wrong. There's no point in checking the xbox site for compatible routers as I have one which isn't on their site and works fine, It's a netgear DG834G and being a netgear is he best. Before I bought a router I looked on www.reviewcentre.co.uk to see what consumers thought and netgear came out top.

Why bother spending £60 for a wireless adapter when you don't need one. Providing you have a wireless router, which you still need with the microsoft adapter, buy a wireless gaming adapter instead. You get one of those off ebay for about £25 or try staples as they were selling a netgear one for £30, some time ago.

You only need a gaming adaper plugged into the 360 via the ethernet socket but note it is not plug and play and you will have to configure the adapter to make it work but I am an expert in this if you need any help. If you haven't got a wireless router buy a netgear as they simple to set up.

If you don't mind having a long cable connected from the 360 to the router there are sites on ebay that will do you a network (ethernet) cable to any length you want for less than a tenner. You need a normal or patch cable if you decide to go this route and the cable is going to a router. If the cable is going direct to your pc then you need a crossover cable.

If you need any info in setting the 360 up look at some of my other answers or drop me an email

i did a similar element it fairly is what you do plug the ethernet cord into the decrease lower back of the xbox then plug different end into the router or modem (the container via making use of your computing device with flashing lighting fixtures ask ur parents they might understand what it fairly is) ok then turn the router or modem off then decrease lower back on then wait 30-40 5 seconds ( until ultimately finally each and every of the lighting fixtures are on) then get on ur xbox then push get xbox stay then u attempt connection and all the lighting fixtures on the loading element sould flow on yet basically wait some then located creat xbox stay acount P.S. enter code P.S.S. wat u did incorrect the 1st time is u pluged different end of the ethernet cord to the decrease lower back of the computing device no longer the router or modem

buy a wireless netgear router and attatch it to your pc.. set up network as instructed on the pc get it to communicate with your service provider and then instruct your xbox to find wireless network and insert password (often called a WEP key) (which you would have set up when you set up your router with your pc earlier) and then once your xbox has verified it's wireless connection you can insert you xbox live disc and fingers crossed.. away you go.. Good luck you might bump into my hubby in gears of war
