Sorry, but your question made me laugh (in a good sense)
Either you wanted to make a fine joke or you are mixing up two different things...
IF I understand right, Mexican-Americans (people who are born here from Mexican descendants) specially near the border regios call themselves Chicanos (which is not an offense) from the Mechica culture, which I understand is the pronunciation closest to Mexico in a language spoken long, long time ago...
And Gusanos to Cubans, I haven;t heard that one, but I can tell you that is not a nice way to call somebody. In the Latin culture a gusano means a worm, somebody who is a bottom feeder...so in that case these two words have a completely different meaning and effect.

I know only a little about the term Chicano. And it is a term of pride that Mexicans call themselves who are "part of the movement".

I know chicano people don't like being called hispanic or latino. There is no country "hispanic" and the chicanos have separated the word to be "his panic" because it was a political term given to people who immigrated to the USA from south of the border. They don't like being called latin because they aren't in "Latin America" and it is not distinguished enough. They use the term Latino for people even from Spain.

Granted this is all second hand information that I have heard from one of the movement.
