They prefer Subaru Impreza WRX STI's or Misibushi Evo 9's & 10's but until they can afford to buy them they put up with Peugoet 307 or 206's Or Honda civic's Or Fiat Punto's Or Ford Fiesta and the likes.

From a personal view, i wanted a smaller car because it was easier to park!! On that note, altho it might not be appreciated, all my friends that didnt have power steering are noe cracking parkers! ITs a pain but it means that when they upgrade, it'll be amazing
Any fiesta after 1998 has top safety ratings (Always a worry for parents of new drivers)....
Whatever you do, dont get them a flash powerful car. There are reasons why in the UK its nearly impossible to get insurance u25 for certain makes/engines- they WILL crash!

Very individual choice but if you are thinking realistically because you want to buy your son/daughter a car, you should probably look at a sporty 5-door.
Brands like Peugot, Vauxhall, Golf, Toyota are more affordable.

the girly girl in me screams VW beetle in mystic blue!
but being a teen just about to take my test i think i want a corsa its practical and looks good. plus quite small so easy to park!
