1. Drink a six pack of water (anywhere between 60-80 ounces) daily.
2. Exercise by walking/slow jogging. Take two 20-40 walks daily as pain permits.
3. Eat 3 good servings or more of vegetables and/or fruits.
4. Take a fiber supplement.
5. Take a stool softener+laxative.
6. Cut your caloric intake by half.

There is a cereal called Fiber One, honey clusters, it has like 56% fiber in it and it works really well. And since it is a cereal it is safe, it does work. It doesn't taste bad at all, just don't let it sit in the bowl too long before you eat it. I say that since I swear it grows in the bowl and you it looks like you have twice as much to eat. : )
Might as well laugh about other wise you'd cry. It is horrible though and I totally sympathize with you, it isn't much fun. I also have to take pain medication and have had to since like 2003. I have a painful medical condiction and have been perscribed my medications, just so no one will think other wise. There is no cure for what I have, had to quit my job due to my medical condiction.
Every thing will be alright try the cereal and through out the day eat, fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water. That is the best thing I have found, you will be just fine.

Magnesium. Eat blueberries, soak in an Epsom salt bath and take quality Magnesium supplements like http://www.mynsp.com/carole/products/guide.aspx?stockNum=1786
Once you get going again, keep taking a maintenance dosage of extra magnesium to keep the problem from coming back.
Lots and lots of water is also important and stay away from cheese, wheat and bananas until you start going again as they can gum up the works.
Yoga can also be very helpful. Check out Yoga Journal and search for constipation to find more information that will help.
Peace!

That is a side effect of Vicodin. Tell your doctor and he will recommend what's best. Drink lots of water, take a laxative.
However,,,,, I wouldn't recommend taking too much Vicodin and the laxative at the same time. You could wake up with a surprise.

Eat a lot of fiber. That is a natural way to clean out your system. Also, you will probably want to stop taking the Vicoden. If the fiber doesn't work, you can always resort to ex-lax.

Hospitalized patients who receive opiods are usually prescribed stool softeners such as Dulcolax. Opiods cause the gut to slow down, so to speak. That is how Lomotil works.
Hopefully you are not taking this drug on a long term basis. I have quite a bit of experience with addictions, and I have seen lots of pharmacists and nurses become addicted to Vicodin. Some of them take so much that they become deaf.

First of all, can you see if you can switch from Vicodin to something else?
Then you need to get a gentle laxative, like Fibercon, and start taking that according to instructions.

Yes pain meds cause constipation. Try drinking more water or get a stool softener or prune juice should help soften and clear you up.

If your taking vic due to surgery then call your doctor & he will prescribe you something. Some people can have stomach problems from taking certain pain killers.
If you taking them not prescribed by a Dr. then stop before you make it worse
