A specialist has ordered an MRA scan for my lower back because I keep having trouble with it, pain, stiffness. What will this scan show that an x-ray can't. Specialist said it was deteriorating. And also ordered blood tests. I have no idea why the blood tests for back pain.

If he's ordering an MRA instead of an MRI, he's worried that the pain is claudication (ischemic pain from reduced arterial circulation) rather than musculoskeletal or neurologic in cause. The blood tests probably include cholesterol level and inflammatory markers that would contribute to vascular disease.

You will be having an MRI scan. Basically it is a more thorough scan than the normal CAT scan. It can check bone, muscle, blood flow, nerves in the spine. Blood tests would be carried out to see if you had any inflammation present in your body & also to check your general health.

I would think your more important question should be "How do I get rid of the back pain?" Try going to healthquest.peoplesway.com and look at protec, I know of a guy with arthritis throughout entire body, this product got him off moriphine for his pain. You can check out video on youtube, search peoplesway.
